Aroma AWK-161 Clar-i-Tea 1.7-Liter Electric Water Kettle and Tea Brewer
I bought this kettle about 6 months ago and I use at least
once a day. I really love it! The water heats quickly, the glass doesn't flavor
the water, and it is very handy for heating water for a wide variety of
applications. We have very mineral-rich water where I live, so the glass is
easier to clean than other options and I can remove the calcium deposits easily
without chemical cleaners. Considering the price, durability, and usefulness of
this kettle, I would highly recommend it to others.
That said, it does have two problems. The first is one other people have
mentioned: the metal mesh in the lid rusted within a week of use. I think it's
very easy to get around this - just remove the lid before you pour. You have a
be a bit more careful doing it this way, but it keeps the rust out of your
drinks. The second problem I've encountered when brewing tea in the kettle
itself (as opposed to heating the water in the kettle and pouring it into my
mug to brew): if tea runs down the outside of the kettle, it settles between
the glass and the silicone seal at the base. You can't really get the tea out
of that space without submersing the whole unit in water, but that's not
possible to do due to the electrical components in the base. Now my tea kettle
has some permanent stains. They annoy me, but I'm willing to put up with them.
If you can live with removing the lid when you pour and the risk of getting
irremovable stains between the reservoir and the seal, then this is a great
kettle. I can live with these things because the kettle otherwise makes me so
happy that I'd rather deal with the problems than try to find another kettle
that I like as well as this one. I don't regret buying it at all, and I think I
will get good use out of it for a long time.
